Annie Mawson MBE – Sunbeams Music Trust
From the moment I met Richard at his roofing and living roof exhibition stand at the Westmorland County show I felt I could trust his advice.
At the time I had just finished playing my Harp for Made in Cumbria raising awareness for our charity and I really needed to rest my feet.  Naturally, when I saw an exhibition stand with a living roof display I veered towards it as I was planning one for our bespoke music therapy centre that was in the conceptual stage with our Architects. Richard had no idea I was planning this large building with extensive landscaping on the roof and after a lengthy discussion, I told him about our Charity, Sunbeams Music Trust.  After more discussions over industry standards and cost savings, the conversation got around to where we lived in Cumbria.  When I heard he was from Windermere I was intrigued as I’d lived there for a few years too.  Then to find out he lived in my old house (also named Sunbeams) I knew we’d met for a reason.  From that day back in 2007 until today Richard is always available for any advice if needed and often pops up on the roof with some new plants to add more biodiversity to the building.

I first met Richard on one of my projects in Chester.  The old representative I was used to using had left the company and I needed some advice/ideas on how to terminate an awkward outlet on some box gutters.  He came up with a few suggestions and even demonstrated the preferred method showing the fitters how to complete the installation.  You don’t get many reps who know how to fit roofs. This gave us immediate confidence that what Richard was advising us came from experience and not from trying to sell us the most expensive system.
His deliveries are rapid and well organised and having used him successfully for over 20 years we have no reason to go anywhere else.

I met Richard at a local sustainability conference run by Cumbria Action for Sustainability.  He was doing a presentation on waterproofing and living roofs with the President European Federation of Green Roof Associations, Dusty Gedge (
As a keen advocate of all things BEES I was keen to refurbish some of my buildings with some sustainable waterproofing and wildflower roofs.  Richard helped from start to finish and we even used some of my old underfloor heating trays instead of the industry standard drainage boards.  This saved me a few £’s and it’s great to reduce-reuse-recycle.
After a few years the wildflowers are now thriving and last spring I counted over 100 different species of insects and invertebrates on the roof.

I worked with Richard on some of the new Lancaster University projects specifically on the Physics building and the IsoLabs.  He was always helpful from site inspections to providing us with bespoke technical information required for the client. I knew after watching one of his demonstrations on site that we could trust him as he’d clearly installed the products as well as representing the company technically.

We met Richard when he worked for Resitrix.  We'd just finished a 2 day training course and he offered to attend site to help with anything that might not have been covered on the course.  When he started M2M Roofing is was an obvious choice to switch after all the years of support.
Deliveries are always there when promised whether it's waterproofing, insulation or vapour control layers.  He even helped us out on a project recently where the builder asked us at 4pm to do another area that wasn't in the original spec.  Richard met our guys at 6am the following morning to make sure we had the materials to finish the job. Excellent service and support.
